It’s been a while since I did a fresh install so I could be slightly mistaken. The first time you install and run the browser it informs you of this and links you here if I remember correctly. Yes there’s built in telemetry in all(?) mainstream browsers these days. This feature is an opt-out that can be disabled. They claim they store the collected data for several days. While running, Brave will make lots of requests to the domain as telemetry.
Same deal with the long term support (LTS) versions of Ubuntu or your favorite distro. No new features, just the latest security and stability fixes. Maybe something like an Extended Support Release (ESR) (think Firefox) is more your jam. I don’t think it should have to be explained why this is bad if they don’t. All mainstream operating systems auto-update. All mainstream browsers auto-update these days. I personally don’t see how that’s bad for overall security and bug fixes of the web browser. The reason why it’s low priority would be because it’s been over a year and there hasn’t been an implementation of it yet. Athough, it’s on Brave’s low priority list to add an option to do so.
